Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi Visits Poonch

JAMMU, JULY 3: Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, during his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir after taking over command of the Indian Army, visited Poonch on Wednesday to take stock of the situation along the Line of Control.

During his visit, General Dwivedi held a high-level discussions with officers stationed in the region. He addressed the prevailing security situation and reviewed the measures in place to ensure the safety and security of the border areas.

Accompanied by M. V. Suchindra Kumar GOC in Chief  Northern Command, Naveen Sachedeva GOC 16 core, Gourav Rishi GOC 25 DiV, he emphasized the importance of vigilance and the use of advanced technology for monitoring the Line of Control (LoC).

General Dwivedi instructed the officers to maintain a heightened state of alertness, especially given the strategic importance of the LoC. 

“Our vigilance is crucial to safeguarding the integrity of our nation,” he said. “We must utilize every technological resource available to enhance our monitoring capabilities and ensure that our borders remain secure.”

Earlier, he had arrived here in the morning and immediately flown to Poonch where he visited the Brigade headquarters and interacted with the field commanders, sources said,

During interaction, he discussed the latest situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and also in the hinterland with emphasis on the continuing anti-militancy operations in the Poonch and Rajouri district in light of the recent terror incidents at both the places.

General Upendra Dwivedi has already served as the Army commander of the Udhampur headquartered Northern Command that controls all three Army corps in J&K and the Ladakh region.

General Upendra Dwivedi is an accomplished military leader with 40 years of service in the Armed Forces. An alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa (MP), he was commissioned into the Regiment of Jammu & Kashmir Rifles in 1984. He eventually became the first officer from J&K’s native JAKRIF to rise to the position of Army Chief.

The General also has the unique distinction of balanced command as well as staff exposure across Northern, Eastern, and Western theatres, in varied operational environments.

General Dwivedi brings with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record of effectively planning and executing for the unexpected. He has held critical appointments and played a pivotal role in combating grey zone manifestations in the national security landscape.
