Three arrested for helping militants attack police party in Doda

JAMMU, JUNE 21: The Jammu Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested three people in connection with terror attack on police and security forces who were conducting searches at Kota Top in Gandoh area on June 11.

An SPO was injured in the attack.

The searches were being carried out in the wake of a terror attack on a joint naka of police and security forces at Chattergala area of Bhaderwah the preceding night. Five security forces personnel and an SPO were injured in that attack.

Doda SSP Javed identified the arrested persons as  Safdar, Mubashir and Sajjad, all residents of Tantna Gandoh. Their formal arrest came after their sustained questioning during police custody for several days.

According to the SSP, two separate groups of militants were behind the twin attacks. While those attacking search parties at Kota Top were four in numbers, a group of three militants had attacked the joint naka of security forces and police Chatter-gala.

The arrested villagers had acted as guide to the militants carrying out attack at Kota Top and also helped them in settling down in the area, he said, adding that they did not inform the police about them.

On the basis of description provided by these villagers, the police have released sketch of all the four militants who are believed to be Pakistani nationals and are roaming in upper areas of Bhaderwah, Thathri and Gandoh in Doda district. An award of Rs 20 lakh has also been announced for information leading to their arrest or elimination.
