Iran president, foreign minister die in helicopter crash

NEW DELHI, MAY 20: Iran president Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hissein Amit-Abdollahian reportedly died in a helicopter crash on Sunday near the Azerbaijan-Iran border.

The wreckage of the crashed helicopter was found on Monday morning, according to reports published in Iranian media, which said that all passengers on border the helicopter died in the crash.

The mishap occurred while crossing a mountain terrain in heavy fog. The Iran president and the foreign minister were then returning after visiting the country’s north-west border with Azerbaijan in a US made Bell 212 helicopter.

While the Iranian Army and elite Revolutionary Guards were pressed into service for search and rescue operations, a Turkish drone helped in locating the helicopter wreckage.
