Soldier shot dead by father-in-law over matrimonial dispute in Reasi

REASI, MAY 11: A serving Army soldier was shot dead by his own father-in-law in Reasi’s Cameldanga area of Jammu and Kashmir following some family dispute.

The father-in-law, Doulat Ram, also a member of the village defense group (VDG), has been arrested by the police and the gun used in the commission of crime seized.

Identified as Amit Singh, the deceased had come home on leave some 10 days ago, sources said, adding that he was having some strained relations with his wife, who happened to be the daughter of Doulat Ram.

Both Doulat Ram and Amit Singh hail from Thakrakote tehsil of Reasi district, but they had been staying in Reasi town for the past several years.

Giving details, sources said some members of Doulat Ram’s family had come to  Amit Singh’s house at Cameldanga for settlement of dispute between him and his wife.

In the meantime, Doulat Ram armed with his .303 rifle also knocked at the doors of Amit Singh and when latter opened the doors, the VDG member opened fire on him injuring him seriously.

Amit was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital and from there, he was referred to the Government Medical College Hospital at Jammu. However, he breathed his last en route.
