JAMMU, AUGUST 18: The Army and Jammu Kashmir Police during a joint operation killed a militant in Reasi district’s Dhakikot area on Thursday night.
Pointing out that the slain militant was the one who had escaped from during encounter with Army and Police in adjoining Rajouri district’s Khawas area on August 5. In that encounter, his accomplice – a Pakistani national was killed and huge quantity of arms and ammunition among other things were seized from him.
Giving details, Defence PRO said that army troops along with police had been carrying out relentless operations in search of militant who had escaped during their operation in Khawas area.
During the ongoing operations, Army and Jammu Kashmir Police deployed along the high ridge lines in Jungle area near Dhakikot on August 17 night observed suspicious movement of unidentified persons.
When one of the suspicious persons approached the deployment site and was challenged, he tried to escape. The Army troops readjusted their positions to prevent his escape, he said.
The the suspicious person was seen stumbling and falling down the cliff in dense jungle, he said. Party probed ahead, till the search was halted for the night due to inclement weather and dense jungle area.
During search operation along with SOG and VDC members in early morning hours the dead body of a likely foreign terrorist was found in the jungle area. Warlike stores have also been recovered from the terrorist. Operation in progress, he added.
