JAMMU, DECEMBER 24: BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Saturday said that assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in May 2023.

“At the most, elections will be held in May,’’ he told party functionaries at the BJP headquarters here. However, he did not stop here, but even announced the deadline for distribution of party tickets to prospective candidates.

“If government is to be made in May, then tickets have to be distributed in March. We have only two and a half month left including 7 days of December, 60 days of January and February and 15 days of March 2023),’’ he told the gathering.

Pointing out that party cells (at booth/mandal level) are going to have a major role in these elections, he quoting an incharge of the cell said that they have a data of 6000 (functionaries). “Abhi aap ko ek badi jump leni hai’’ (Now you have to take a big leap), he said, adding that party’s UT general secretary Devinder Manyal has been deputed to coordinate with you. He will coordinate with you from his office in case you face any problem in the district or the mandal.

Last time, the party had made its each senior leader like former Deputy Chief Ministers Dr Nirmal Singh and Kavinder Gupta, former minister and ex-party president Sat Sharma, former minister S S Slathia and senior leader Devinder Singh Rana incharge of 3-4 cells with the sole objective to strengthen them, he pointed out.

He asked Dr Manyal to take it as a home work. “We do not need to go here and there, or do much thinking, but how to do this home work, we will discuss it here from today,’’ he added.

Later, taking to media persons, the BJP leader, however, said that it was the prerogative of the Election Commission to announce elections. The BJP, however, feels that these will be held soon as the Election Commission was working fast in the direction like completing the delimitation of assembly constituencies and preparation of electoral rolls, he added.
