Northern Army Commander felicitates Winners of 1st Inter Services Paragliding X-Country Championship

Jammu: The first Inter Services Paragliding X-Country Championship was held at Bir Billing (Himachal Pradesh)- the world’s second highest paragliding site at 8000 feet by Dah Division, under the aegis of Army Adventure Wing from 29 Oct to 01 Nov 2022. Teams comprising of paragliding pilots from the Indian Army and Indian Navy participated in the competition. The competition generated enthusiastic participation from the paragliding pilots, wherein they demonstrated awe inspiring wing control and accuracy skills coupled with X-Country navigation.

The competition being a first of its kind, provided an excellent opportunity to the paragliding pilots to showcase their paragliding skills under the watchful eyes of some of India’s best Paragliding coaches and umpires. The ability of the Paragliding flight to last many hours and cover large distance is, what is of great importance to the Armed Forces. This inter services competition will not only achieve synergy among the services but also create a pool of trained Pilots who can also be used for operational tasks behind the enemy lines. The competition has strengthened the bonds of bonhomie between the services reinforcing our commonality & cohesiveness. 

The three day competition culminated with a cultural programme followed by Awards Presentation by Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, GOC-in-C Northern Command.  The Army Commander congratulated the winners for showcasing their excellent skills of paragliding in a x-country terrain and expressed confidence that the services paragliding pilots would also perform equally well in other National as well as International events and bring laurels to the country and to their respective services.
