One held for attack on police party in Kathua

JAMMU, AUGUST 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Police fired warning shots in the air in Kathua district’s Maggar Khad area on Sunday morning after it came under attack from a mob carrying sharp edged weapons, lathies and even stones.

 A number of police men were injured in the attack which came around 6.30 am when the police party was carrying out searches in the area in view of the coming Independence Day, police said. The search party comprising police personnel from Lakhanpur Police Station and Special Operation Group (SOG) in Kathua district, was led by DySP (Operation) Tilak Raj Bhardwaj and SHO Lakhanpur.Inspector Vijay Kotwal.

One of the assailant Mohammad Sharif of Maggar Khan has been arrested along with a Toka, while searches have been launched for other accused. A case under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act has been registered at Lakhanpur police station.
