JAMMU, AUGUST 6: Dr. Nikhil Mahajan along with his team successfully performed Jammu & Kashmir’s first case of Physiological Pacing in a Heart patient at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Hospital, Kakryal.
The patient was admitted to the hospital with reduced pulse rate and frequent episodes of loss of conciousness. However, he has fully recovered after performance of the surgery.
Explaining the disease Dr. Nikhil Mahajan said that “for more than 50 years, a standard approach to permanent cardiac pacemaker was lead placement at the heart apex. This resulted in untoward side effects in the form of heart failure and arrhythmias in 40% such patients. To counter such adverse side effects, a need for physiological cardiac pacing was sought.”
He said that “his bundle pacing (HBP) and Left bundle branch pacing (LBBP) are aimed at restoring such physiological activation of heart. Physiological Pacing is safe, efficacious, and feasible; and long term complication of heart failure is avoided, he said, adding taht this is the future of pacing and it should be encouraged.”
The Facility Director MM Mathawan while briefing about the world Class facilities at Narayana Hospital said “the patient underwent successful Left Bundle Branch Pacing for low pulse without any complication”. He further added “Narayana Hospital with its World Class Infrastructure, Highly qualified Doctors and dedicated Paramedical Staff is well equipped to provide treatment for all ailments and people of Jammu now don’t need to travel to Metro cities for treatment.’’
