BATOTE, JULY 28: A trolley carrying a 70 ton transformer fell into river Chenab after getting hit by boulders rolling down from the hill near jaiswal bridge at Karol in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday evening.

The trolley carrying the transformer was parked on the NH-44 for past many days, sources said, adding that transformer was meant for use by Konkan Railways at the under construction Integrated Sub Station at Sangaldan in Gool.
Since all the four bailey bridges on the old alignment of the national highway were too old to bear the load of 70 ton, the GREF on the directions of Ramban Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam had recently re-launched and upgraded three bailey bridges to raise their load bearing capacity within 27days, The fourth one was re-alunched in June.
The trolley was about to move to Sangaldan in next few days.
According to Priyesh Chandra,Project Manager, Hitech Erectors Pvt. Ltd., the lost transformer costs Rs 3 crore.
