JAMMU, JUNE 20: Some unidentified gunmen broke into an HDFC bank branch at Hatli Morh in Kathua and decamped with cash worth nearly 85-90 lakh on Sunday night.
According to police, they reportedly entered the bank branch from the rooftop of the building, tied an “unarmed’’ guard sleeping inside the bank branch with the iron grills, and broke opened the locks of the trunks containing cash nearly Rs 1 crore. Thereafter, they stuffed the cash in their bags and decamped from the way they had come.
The police was informed by the bank staff about the robbery on Monday morning when they opened the branch and found the guard tied.
The police, during inspection of the spot, found nearly Rs 18-20 lakh on the roof of the bank branch, which appear to have fallen from the robbers’ bags when they were absconding.
Meanwhile, Kathua SP R C Kotwal has formed a special investigation team to look into the matter.
