Four killed, 22 sustain burns as bus catches fire near Katra

JAMMU, MAY 13: Four passengers were killed and 22 injured on Friday when a local bus caught fire near Katra in Jammu and Kashmir under mysterious circumstances.

The bus number JK-14 1831 was on way from Katra to Jammu at that time, Additional Directir General of Police, Jammu, Mukesh Singh said.

While two people were charred to death on the spot, two more bodies were later found from the rubble, police said.

The mishap took place at Kharmal nearly 1.5 km from Katra, police said, adding that according to preliminary investigations, the bus caught fire the engine area which soon engulfed the entire vehicle.

The injured were shifted to Katra and of them, three seriously injured have been referred for specialised treatment.

The FSL team has been rushed to the spot to ascertain the cause of fire. More details are awaited.
