Police arrest BJP corporator who was travelling in vehicle with fake registration number

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 21: Jammu Kashmir’s Traffic Police in Udhampur town on Monday apprehended a BJP Corporator in Srinagar Municipal Corporation after he was found travelling in a Scorpio vehicle bearing fake registration number HR07AC 2642.

Identified as Nazir Ahmed Gilkar, a resident of Srinagar, the arrested Corporator accompanied by two PSOs was on way to Srinagar from Jammu when their vehicle was stopped at a naka set up by the Traffic Police.

Traffic Police DySP Himmat Singh who apprehended the corporator said that the later claimed to have purchased the vehicle from someone in Srinagar for Rs 8.5 lakh some days ago. However, he did not possess any documents of the vehicle.

As the vehicle carried registration number of some other state and the Corporator failed to produce any document, the Traffic Police officials tried to get details of the vehicle online only to find the registration number was fake. Even its chassis number was of some other vehicle.

The Corporator was taken into custody and shifted to the Udhampur Police Station, while the vehicle was seized. Further investigations are in progress.
