SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 23: A major tragedy was averted as security forces on Thursday detected an IED weighing 5-kg in Wanpora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Acting on specific intelligence input that militants have planted an IED on Newa, Pulwama-Srinagar road in Wanpora, a search operation was launched jointly by Pulwama police, 50RR and 183 battalion of CRPF, police said.
“During the search, one IED was found planted roadside. The IED weighed approx 5 kilograms and was assembled in a container. Bomb disposal team of police and army destroyed the IED on spot through controlled detonation,” it added.
While a case has been registered and investigations started, a few suspects have been picked up for questioning. With the timely action a major tragedy has been averted.
