Jammu and Kashmir Sports Policy to kick-start in 2 months: LG Sinha

Jammu, Nov 26: Stating that to give fillip to the sports discipline and related infrastructure, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday said much awaited sports policy will be launched in next one month.
“We know that from 2014 onwards, no recruitment has been made in the sports sector but I want to announce that new Sports Policy for Jammu and Kashmir is in the pipeline and will be announced in a month,” Sinha said while addressing the gathering at the closing ceremony of 56th Junior National Artistic and 25th Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship organised at Maulana Azad Stadium.

The Lieutenant Governor also dedicated international level gymnastics academy on the occasion.
“We want to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his special focus for sports and giving us so many projects under PMDP,” said Sinha.

The Lieutenant Governor said many of the projects are completed and the remaining will be completed by 2022.

“Under new upcoming Sports Policy, not only recruitments in Class 3 or 4 will be made but also in the officers level category,” he said , adding that outstanding players will get special attention under the policy.
“Sports in Jammu and Kashmir are touching new heights and I want to ensure that we will be proving international level infrastructure and facilities including world class coaching standards in days to come for our representation at national and international levels,” said LG Sinha.

Sports sector will soon see a boom, he said adding, “we are also taking help of Centre and sports experts in preparing the sports policy to uplift our sports standards in future.”

Meanwhile, in Rhythmic event, Maharashtra lifted overall team championship trophy followed by host Jammu and Kashmir jointly with RG team and Harayana for third place.

The Lieutenant Governor also facilitated outstanding players on the occasion with cash rewards and felicitation certificates. (Agencies)
