Changing system alone will not bring conclusiveness; says RSS chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat

JAMMU, OCTOBER 2: RSS chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat here on Saturday called for change in the mindset of the people saying that bringing change in the system alone will not bring conclusiveness.

System keeps changing, he said, adding “370 he hataya nahi, baybastha mein bhi parivartan hua’’ (Not only Article 370 got scrapped, the system also got changed), said RSS chief while addressing a select gathering of intellectuals and thinkers at Jammu University’s General Zorawar Singh auditorium.

Referring to Praja Parishad agitation and sacrifices made by many people including Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee who felt the system at that time was not as per their objective, aspirations and the situation, he in his 54 minute address said that people appear to be happy on achieving the objective.

However, just by changing the system will not do as people running the system also come from the society. And the kind of society is there, the same kind of the people are there everywhere, he said. In this context, he quoted an English proverb “People get the government they deserve’’, adding “our leaders are also like us’’.

`While in politics, allegations and counter allegations take place and these will keep going, he said that if people want their representatives to be as per their desires, attitude and the situation, then they will have to sacrifice their little vested interests for the overall development of the society. The entire society will have to develop this thought, he said, adding “it takes many people to establish a system, but very few people are required to destroy it’’.

RSS chief also talked about increasing intolerance and egoism. “Like today’s situation, there is no balance as people go to one extreme which is leading to conflict. It is causing damage,’’ he said, adding “fundamentalism has risen, egoism has gone up’’.

“I treat myself supreme…there have even between differences between castes,’’ he said, adding that “this also exists in our country. The states came later, it (differences) are not going, because I treat group superior and believe that God has given all the rights to me and all others have to live in this world on my mercy’’. Despite progress in science and technology, this problem of egoism has not changed, he added.

Pointing out that people have a totally different attitude in India as they have been taught since time immemorial that their purpose is to work for the welfare of world, he said that this aspect has been followed by the people knowingly or unknowingly throughout the history of India.  “Gods and Goddesses have changed; languages, rulers, states and even regions have changed, but this ideology is still intact,’’ he added.

Indians have an inherent quality of accommodating each other which brought all the diversity into unity, he said, adding “today we say unity in diversity, but in actual it is diversities of unity’’. “They are all one and this one appears in different images and they have no conflict between themselves. It has no insider or outsider and it needs to be understood,’’ he said, adding “it is the way which unites everybody and takes everybody along on path of peace and development, and which we call the Dharma way’’. Dharma is not pooja only, but a human’s attitude, responsibilities and work are also dharma, he said, adding we have to make the entire world aware of it.

Pointing out that this system which people had established in India got shattered in attacks by invaders during the past 1000-2000 years, he said “we all are different from each other’’ and called for “respecting the diversities and each other’s feelings’’. “We all are people of one country and we too have small interests as well. These will lead to conflicts too, but above all we shall develop a feeling that we are all Indians and our country is above all,’’ RSS chief said, adding that “our country will become safe, prosperous and important world over if we all have this feeling’’.
