Srinagar: Three terrorists were killed as the alert Army troops on Thursday foiled an infiltration bid from across the Line of Control into Rampur Sector of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir.

A large quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from slain terrorists.

Giving details, army officials said that troops spotted some suspicious movement during the morning hours in the general area Hathlanga along the Line of Control. The infiltrators on being challenged opened fire and attempted to get away, they said, adding that during the ensuing firefight, all three terrorists were eliminated. The operation has been terminated.

The seizures include 5 AKs rifles, 8 pistols, 69 assorted Chinese and Pakistani grenades, 2 IEDs, Indian currency worth  ₹ 35,000 and Pakistani currency worth  Rs 3300.

There has been a spurt in infiltration activities in the recent past and the present infiltration bid comes close on the heels of similar attempt in Uri Sector, few days back, they said, adding that the current violence levels in the Kashmir Valley are low. The infiltration bid indicates Pakistan’s desperate attempt to sustain cross border terrorism and bring in weapons to orchestrate violent incidents in the valley, they added.
