The ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’ that symbolises India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971 War reached Yol Cantt, Dharamshala on 11 Sep 2021.
After the Mashaal was received in Devbhoomi of Himachal at Palchan, it was subsequently taken to Pandoh, Mandi and Palampur.
Swarnim Vijay Mashal was received with enthusiasm at Yol Cantt by the Station Commander on 11 Sep 2021. The Swarnim Vijay Mashaal was then taken to the residence of Late Maj Surinder Singh Jamwal, VrC.
Maj SS Jamwal was commanding a company when he was tasked to clear enemy defences at SIRAMANI. The attack was launched at 0950 hours on 16 Dec 1971. Due to heavy and effective fire, 1/4th of his men were incapacitated while over running a locality near the road. Undeterred by the grave situation and inadequate strength, Maj SS Jamwal rallied his men and launched a determined counter attack and charged on the objective. By his inspiring courage and leadership Maj SS Jamwal achieved the unique the distinction of over running two company localities of the enemy.
For this act of gallantry beyond the call of duty, Maj SS Jamwal was awarded with “Vir Chakra”.
To pay tributes to the valour of Maj SS Jamwal a ceremonial handing over of the Victory Flame to Mrs Ranjana Jamwal was carried out at their residence. The Victory Flame will be placed at Dharmshala War Memorial on 14 Sep 2021 at 1100Hrs for War Memorial Service. All ESM and Civil delegations are invited to participate in the event and make this historic event a success.
