Srinagar: Encounter between militants and security forces in Shopian area of Kashmir ended on Sunday with the killing of two militants.
A soldier also lost his life and two others injured in the exchange of fire which began at Wangam in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.
Based on specific information about the presence of the militants, a joint team of police and army had launched a cordon- and-search-operation in the area on Saturday. As the joint team approached the suspected spot, they said, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off a gunfight.
While two militants were killed, three army personnel had sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to hospital to army’s 92-base hospital where one among them breathed his last.
The identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained, sources said. One M-4 rifle was also recovered from the slain militants, they added.
