Sopore: At least six families were rendered homeless on Saturday morning after massive fire engulfed Maharajpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
According to locals, fire broke in the wee hours on Saturday which rapidly expanding to the nearby houses resulting in complete damage of 4 residential houses while two other houses were partially damaged in the devastating inferno.However the cause of fire was not asserted.
Locals said that once the news spread in the area people in large number especially youth reached to the spot and started rescue operation, carrying water in buckets and other utensils to douse the rising flames. However, their efforts failed to yield any results till the fire spread in the locality.
They said the fire brought under control after a team of fire service department, police reached the spot.
While visiting the spot police team headed by SDPO Raja Majid, SHO Sopore Azim Iqbal took stock of damaged structures in the area and assured affected families for providing all possible help as immediate relief.
Police identified heads of six families as Bilal Ahmad Malla son of Wali Mohammad Malla, Javaid Ahmad Malla,Gh Nabi Malla son of Gh Mohammad Malla, Mohammad Yousuf Malla son of Ali Mohammad Malla,Nazir Ahmad Malla Gh Mohammad Malla,Mohd Sahban Malla son of Gh Mohammad Malla, all residents of Maharajpora. It said the fire has been put under control. The officer said a report in the regard has been registered and investigations are in progress.
