Srinagar: With road and air traffic disrupted for the past over 24 hours, heavy snowfall and rains brought normal life to a grinding halt across Jammu and Kashmir.
While the Jammu-Srinagar and Srinagar-Leh national highways, besides Mughal road were closed for vehicular traffic, the air traffic also remained suspended due to hostile weather conditions.
With Kashmir Valley and its adjoining areas falling in Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal regions in Jammu division covered with thick blanket of snow, even link roads in many areas were closed and power and water supply disrupted at various places.
The authorities have cautioned people in hilly areas against unnecessary venturing out of their houses.
Snowfall which started in Kashmir Valley and adjoining areas of Jammu division Sunday morning was still continuing, with MeT officials predicting that it will continue till Wednesday.
Meanwhile, according to officials, Seinagar received snowfall of 13.4 cm in the last 24 hours. The highest 52 cm snowfall was recorded in Qazigund, while Pahalgam and Kokernag had 21 cm and 32 cm of snowfall, respectively.
Gulmarg, the famous ski resort, had 4 cm of fresh snowfall in the last 24 hours, while it was 3.5 cm in Kupwara and Ganderbal.
In Kashmir which is already in the middle of Chillai-Kalan, Srinagar recorded minus 0.9 °C, Pahalgam (minus 6.7°C), Gulmarg (minus 5.0°C), Qazigund (minus 0.3°C), Kupwara (minus 0.3 °C), and Kokernag recorded (minus 1.4°C).
