Jammu: Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh on Thursday said that there were only three active militants in Jammu division at present.

Taking to media persons on new year eve, he said that at one time, there were were a dozen terrorists active in the Jammu division, whose number has now been reduced to three. “They are in Kishtwar district and we are tracking them,’’ he said.

Giving details of crime and militancy related data of 2020, he said that there had been slight increase in number of people joining militant ranks during the year as compared to 2019. However, the positive aspect is that 70 per cent of them were either eliminated or arrested by police and security forces. The shelf life of militants has decreased, he added.

DGP further said that there has been a significant decline in terror-related incidents during the currest year in comparison to 2018 and 2019, and despite several attempts by Pakistan, cases of infiltration this year was the lowest in the last three-four years. So, militant handlers in Pakistan had to rely on local recruits and they tried to supply weapons, explosive materials and cash to them through drones. Most of these attempts were, however, foiled by police and security forces, he added.
