Jammu: A UK returnee has been tested positive for COVID-19 here raising concerns in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Confirming this, a senior Health Department official said that it is, however, yet to be confirmed whether he was affected with mutated coronavirus genosme variant. The person tested positive has been kept in isolation at specified government facility for COVID-19 patients and his sample has been sent to NIB Pune to find out whether he was affected by the same new UK viant genosome, he added.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday said that 234 new positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19) were reported across the UT on Tuesday. Of these, 103 were from Jammu division and 131 from Kashmir division, thus taking the total number of active positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 3,088.
There were also four COVID-19 related deaths including two each in Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
Those tested positive for Coronavirus included a newly elected member of the Poonch District Development Council Day who was found infected with the virus a day after taking oath. Following this, the district administration asked all the participants of the oath taking ceremony to isolate and get tested themselves, saying that the staff at Poonch Deputy Commissioner’s office shall also be tested.
