Jammu, December 21: Repolling in four polling stations in Jammu and Kashmir’s Mendhar area of border Poonch district opened on a brisk note on Monday, with nearly 22 per cent of the electorate having cast their vote fir maiden District Development Council polls during the first two hours.
Giving details, sources said that 24.7 per cent voters had exercised their right to franchise in Mendhar A and 19.4 per cent in Mendhar B till 9 am. The repolling had started at 7 am.
UT’s State Election Commission had on Friday ordered re-polling in four polling stations for District Development Council’s Mendhar-A and Mendhar-B constituency in border Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. This followed report by District Panchayat Election Officer, Poonch, Rahul Yadav, about incidents of “violence and unlawful activities’’ at these polling stations during 7th phase of DDC elections held on Wednesday.
The four polling stations where re-polling will be held include 17-Primary School, Hajama and 32 Middle School, Gallian, both in Mendhar A; besides 29-Middle School, Sakhimaidan and 30-Girls Middle School, Sakhimaidan, both Mendhar B constituency.
The repolling will take place from 7 am to 2 pm, and the counting of votes polled there will be done along with rest of the DDC as per original schedule on December 22.
