Jammu, December 9: Three militants were killed on Wednesday in a joint operation by police and security forces in Pulwama district’s Tiken area of Jammu and Kashmir.
Owing allegiance to Al-Badr, the slain militants have been identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Lone resident of Arigam Pulwama, Umer Ali resident of Dadsara Tral and Umar Farooq resident of Sugan Shopian. They have been involved in many terror related crimes including planning and executing several major terror attacks on security forces.
Sources said that operation was launched following specific input and after their presence inside a house was got ascertained, they were asked to surrender. However, they started firing indiscriminately making the police and security forces to retaliate. During the encounter, house owner Zamir Sadiq too sustained a bullet injuries and he was evacuated to hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.
Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.
Keeping in view the prevailing pandemic and to ensure the safety of people from inherent risk of contracting the infection, the dead bodies of the killed terrorists shall be sent to Baramulla for their burial and last rites after completion of medico-legal formalities. The nearest family members of the killed terrorists shall be allowed to participate in the last rites at Baramulla.
In this connection a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated.
People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any.
