Srinagar, November 8: Four security forces personnel including a BSF jawan and three militants were killed in an encounter on Sunday after former foiled an infiltration bid by a group of heavily armed militants from across the Line of Contril in Machil sector of Kupwara in North Kashmir.
Giving details, an army spokesman said that “about 1 am, a BSF patrol noticed suspicious movement near the Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS) near a fence, about 3.5 km away from the LoC. A firefight ensued in which one terrorist was killed. A BSF soldier was also killed in action”.
The firefight stopped at 4 a.m., as more troops were rushed to the area for sanitisation. “Terrorists movement was tracked by surveillance devices and contact was re-established at 10.20 a.m. when heavy fire was drawn by own search parties approximately 3.5 km from the LoC. In the ensuing firefight, two more terrorists were killed. Own troops suffered three casualties and two more were injured,” the Army said.
The injured soldiers had been evacuated. The Army said it had so far recovered one AK-47 rifle and two bags from a slain militant even as searches continue in the area.
