Jammu, October 22: People cutting across religious and regional lines observed October 22 as Black Day across the Union Territory as a mark of protest against Pakistan Army attack under the guise of tribesmen on the then Indian princely state of Jammu and Kashmir forcibly annexing a number of its areas in 1947.In a first, local residents of Srinagar put up large hoardings at different locations of the city like Batamaloo , Gupkar Road, MA Road, Jehangir Chowk , Hyderpora, Wazirbagh etc., marking commemoration of October 22 in the history of Jammu and Kashmir as it was on this day in 1947 Pakistan Army along with tribesmen jointly started marching from Muzzafrabad to Srinagar and one side and Poonch-Rajouri on the other. Before the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru agreed to then Maharaja Hari Singh’s request for sending Indian Army and accept his State’s accession with India, Pakistan military and its tribesmen had let loose reign of murder, rape, loot and arson.The people in the hoardings claim to stand in solidarity with the victims of Pakistan sponsored terrorism in Kashmir that continues as a proxy war till date.Meanwhile, displaced persons from Pakistan occupied Kashmir held a sit-in before the statue of last Dogra ruler of Jammu Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh, in Jammu. Led by chairman of SOS International Rajiv Chuni, they paid tributes to all those who laid down lives fighting the Pakistani invaders.
