Dr Arun Kumar Mehta appointed new J&K Chief Secretary

He replaces BVR Subrahmanyam who has been posted as OSD in Union Commerce Ministry

Jammu: Central Government on Thursday appointed Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, a 1988 batch IAS officer of AGMUT Cadre, as new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir.

This followed the posting of J&K’s present Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam as Officer of Special Duty in the Union Commerce Ministry. Subrahmanyam, a 1987 batch IAS officer, will take over as Commerce Secretary at the end of next month as Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) also approved his appointment as Secretary, Department of Commerce upon superannuation of Anup Wadhwan, IAS (UK; 85), on June 30 this year.Mehta will take over as Chief Secretary from the date Subrahmanyam relinquishes charge of the office, and until further orders, read a letter sent by Union Home Secretary to UT’s Lt Governor Manoj Sinha.

Mehta is, at present, UT’s Financial Commissioner (Finance) and he has also has been elevated to the rank of Secretary at the Centre.

A domicile of Bihar, Mehta is B.Tech, M.Tech in civil engineering and also Ph.D Professional.

The appointment of Dr Arun Kumar Mehta as Chief Secretary of J&K, according to many is a perfectly right decision. He has been a no-nonsense, no-prejudice, no-lobbyism, no-personal agenda bureaucrat with a track record of honesty and integrity from day one of his service in Jammu and Kashmir, they said.
