Jammu: Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, on Wednesday directed all the Deputy Commissioners and the Health Department to set up a 5-bedded Covid care centre in every Panchayat across the Union Territory.
“Directed DCs & Health Department to ensure 5-bedded Covid Care Centre in every Panchayat of J&K as many households may not have the option for isolation of Covid positive patients in their own residence,” he said is a tweet. “Each Centre to have one Oxygen-Supported Bed for immediate patient care,” he added.
Significantly, JKPOST had only a day earlier reported that emergence of COVID cases and increasing deaths in far off rural areas has become a new worry of the UT administration as these areas have very little to almost no medicinal facilities as compared to Jammu and Srinagar cities where the health infrastructure is already hard pressed in view of continued spike in Covid positive cases.
Rs. 1 Lakh has been approved from District Capex Budget for creation of facilities in School, Community hall or Panchayat ghar in consultation with nearest Health Centre and Panchayat representatives, LG said in another tweet.
These Centres shall be equipped with necessary medical kit and linked to nearest health centres, he said, adding that this will strengthen health infrastructure in rural areas.
The persons needing isolation shall be identified by the Panchayats/ concerned Medical Staff / ASHA Workers, he said, adding the Mobile testing vans to be utilized to cover villages for testing with the help of PRIs and volunteers.
Medical officers shall establish referral linkage with dedicated Covid Health Centres and dedicated Covid Hospitals, LG said. Ambulance services in rural areas to have oxygen support for safely transporting the patients to Covid dedicated hospitals, he added.
