JAMMU, JUNE 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday issued an advisory for the Amarnath Yatra 2024, saying that “no yatri or tourist vehicle will be allowed to cross the NAVYUG tunnel towards Kashrmir after 1500 hours’’ (3 pm).
Similarly, “the last vehicle to cross Walnut Factory Qazigund towards NAVYUG Tunnel must do so by 1730 hours’’ (5.30 pm), it said.
It further asked the yatris and tourists to “travel in Kashmir Valley between 0700 hours (7 am) and 1800 hours (6 pm)’’.
“After 1800 hours, no further movement is allowed, and vehicles will be directed to the nearest Yatri or Security Forces camp, the advisory said, asking all the Amarnath pilgrims and tourists to adhere to these timings to avoid invonvenience.
The 52-day long annual pilgrimage to Amarnath shrine at a height of 3,880 meters in South Kashmir Himalayas in beginning simultaneously on both the Baltal and Chandanwari routes in Ganderbal and Anantnag districts, respectively, from June 29.
The first batch of Amarnath yatris will leave the yatra’s base camp at Bhagwati Nagar on Friday morning amidst tight security. While the traditional Chandanwari route from Pahalgam side is 48-kms, the Baltal route is only 14 kms but it is difficult in view of its steep height.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have put in place a three-tier security system in and around the Amarnath base camp at Bhagwati Nagar here.
“Adequate security arrangements have been made for the yatra. Three-tier security measures have been put in place for the base camp in the Bhagwati Nagar area, Jammu SSP Dr Vinod Kumar said.
The SSP said that lodgment and registration centres in Jammu City are also under strict security.
Police have also secured the highway through which the yatra will pass every day.
