REASI, MAY 11: Two local Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, in what may be called a loud and clear message of communal amity, donated their four kanal of land (equivalent to 21,680 sq ft) to the village panchayat so as to get road connectivity to a Hindu temple.

Identifying the donars as Ghulam Rasool and Ghulam Mohammad, residents of Kansi Patta village in Kheral panchayat, sources said that the estimated value of the land is over Rs 1 crore.

A 10-ft wide and 1200 meter long road will be constructed connecting Gupt Kashi – Gauri Shankar temple in Kanshi Patta village with the nearest motorable road in Reasi district, sources said.

The road construction work out of panchayat funds will start soon, they added.

Ghulam Rasool, a farmer and former member of the panchayat, said that some people tried to engineer a communal divide by raking up the road issue. “The temple did not have any proper road and some people even ran a hate campaign against members of a particular community,’’ he recalled.

However, to protect communal amity, the local panchayat members and revenue officials held a meeting recently in which, the landowners – Ghulam Rasool and Ghulam Mohammad, volunteered to donate some portion of their land for the road.
