Police foil BJP’s plan to hoist tri colour in Lal Chowk
Srinagar, October 26: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday morning foiled BJP workers’ plan to hoist tri colour at Lal chowk in Srinagar.
Some BJP workers who were trying to hoist tri colour on Lal Chowk’s Clock Tower were taken into custody by the police. Sources identified them as party’s Kupwara unit spokesperson Mir Basharat, besides Mir Ishfaq and Akhtar Khan, also from the same district. “Our message is for members of the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration including Mehbooba Mufti that only tri colour will unfurl in Kashmir,’’ BJP leader said.
It has not been the first time that people owing allegiance to right wing organisations had planned to hoist tri colour as whenever there had been threatening calls from militants or any provocative statements from Kashmiri politicians, they had been trying to hoist national flag to prove their point that Kashmir was an integral part of India.
BJP has planned to hoist tri colour and take out Tiranga rallies across the UT on Monday to celebrate Accessions Day in a big way as it was on this day in 1947 the then Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh had signed the Instrument of Accession and acceded his state into the Indian Dominion.
Ever since PDP president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has in her maiden press conference after her release from 14 month long detention in Srinagar had said that she will not raise tri colour until the erstwhile state was given back its own flag, she has come under attack from saffron organisations and other like minded parties in the Union Territory.
On Sunday, police had foiled two separate attempts by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and a group of youth to hoist national flag at PDP headquarters in Jammu’s Gandhi Nagar area.
