JAMMU, AUGUST 22: Death toll in militants attack on an Army Camp in Rajouri earlier this month rose to five as one more soldier succumbed to injuries in the Military Hospital at Udhampur on Sunday evening.
Identified as Havildar Satpal Singh of Rajasthan’s Jaitapur village in Jhunjhunu district, Defence PRO Lt Colonel Devender Anand said that he was undergoing treatment at Army’s Command Hospital in Udhampur for past ten days. He breathed his last on Sunday evening, Defence PRO added.
The Northern Army Commander Lt General Upendra Dwivedi laid wreaths at the mortal remains of the deceased soldier before they were flown to his native place in Rajasthan, Defence PRO said.
Earlier this month, four soldiers were killed and two others injured in a militant attack on an Army camp in Rajouri district of Jammu on Thursday, just four days ahead of Independence Day. Both the militants involved in the attack were gunned down in the four-hour firefight that followed, the Army said.
The four dead soldiers had been identified as Subedar Rajendra Prasad (48) from Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, Rifleman Manoj Kumar (26) from Faridabad district of Haryana, Rifleman D Lakshmanan (24) from Madurai district of Tamil Nadu and Rifleman Nishant Malik (21) from Hisar district of Haryana.
