Terror associate linked with drone droppings dies of heart attack in Kot Bhalwal jail

A suspected member of a terror module involved in collection and ferrying of weapons and explosives dropped via drones along the International Border in Jammu frontier died after suffering from heart attack in the high security Kot Bhalwal Jail here, officials said.

While more details are awaited, he happens to be the second person associated with drone droppings to have died since Wednesday last.

Qasim’s name figured in disclosures by one of the accused during investigations in an FIR No. 12/2022 registered at Arnia police station on February 24 last regarding drone dropping from Pakistan and subsequent recoveries of arms and ammunition.  The accused revealed that Mohammad Ali Hussain was the main operative of Lashkar-e-Toiba and Al Badr militant outfits and he had been instrumental in drone droppings.

Accordingly police brought him out of Kot Bhalwal jail and subsequently produced him before the court and took his remand. During sustained questioning, he admitted his role in the Arnia weapon drop case and disclosed two locations where the dropped arms and ammunition had been buried, sources said.

In order to recover the weapons, a police team along with concerned magistrate went to the spot one after another, he said, adding that though no recovery was made at the first place, but a packet containing was  recovered at the second place namely Toph village (near International Border) in Phallian Mandal area.

However, when the packet was being opened, militant attacked one of the police official and snatched his service rifle, a senior police official said, adding that he fired at the police party injuring an official and tried to flee from the spot. 

In retaliation, the accused got injured and he was shifted to Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu along with injured police official. The injured militant later succumbed to his injuries. 

The seized packet on being opened was found containing one AK rifle along with one magazine and 40 rounds, one pistol star along with two magazines and 10 rouns and two small Chinese grenades.
