Six ITBP personnel killed, 35 others injured as bus falls into gorge in Pahalgam

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 16: At least six personnel of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were killed while 35 others were injured, some of  seriously, after a bus in which they were travelling rolled down into a gorge near Zig Chandanwari in Anantnag district of South Kashmir on Tuesday.

The ITBP personnel deployed for Amarnath yatra duties were returning from Chandanwari near Pahalgam after the conclusion of 43- day pilgrimage. 

The cause of accident is yet to be ascertained.

While four personnel died on the spot, two others succumbed to injuries on way to the hospital.

A number of the injured were serious and they were being airlifted to army’s 92 base hospital here, the officials said.  

UT’s Lieutenant Governor  Manoj Sinha expressed “deep anguish” over the death of six personnel of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and injuries to over 30 others near Chandanwari Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. 

“Deeply anguished by the bus accident near Chandanwari in which we have lost our brave ITBP personnel. My condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Sinha said in a tweet. “All possible assistance is being provided to the injured personnel.
