Efforts on to reopen Jammu-Srinagar national highway

JAMMU, JUNE 23: With men and machines working 24×7 to clear NH-44 of landslides, efforts are afoot at a massive scale to reopen the Jammu-Srinagar national highway for vehicular traffic by Thursday evening or Friday morning.

The movement of vehicular traffic on the NH-44 had got disrupted following the blockade of road at several places by landslides triggered by heavy rains on Tuesday evening.

Sources said that in Udhampur district,  where150 ft long road stretch had reportedly washed away, the road clearance parties were even carrying out blasting of huge boulders which have blocked the road at Samroli.

In Ramban district, an over 600 Kashmir-bound stranded vehicles were cleared following the clearance of nearly two dozen mudslides, sources said. Efforts were on to clear the road of the remaining nearly half a dozen mudslides also so as to clear the remaining 700-800 vehicles stranded on the highway, they added.
