Police seized five pistols, 23 grenades and explosives from arrested militants who were involved in many incidents of terror
BARAMULLA , MAY 19:
JAMMU, MAY 19: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested four militants along with their one associate and claimed to have solved the recent terror attack on a wine shop in Baramulla in which one person was killed and three others injured.
Five pistols along with 23 grenades and explosives were seized from them.
Giving details, police said that on the evening of 17th May, 2022 at 2005 hours, unknown terrorists borne on a motorbike rode up to the newly-opened wine shop at Dewan Bagh Baramulla and the burqa clad pillion rider hurriedly got off the bike and dropped a grenade inside the shop through a porthole window.
After lobbing the grenade, the terrorist returned to his waiting accomplice and fled from the spot. The grenade exploded at the shop due to which four persons were injured who were evacuated to GMC Baramulla by Police and Army personnel.
One of the injured persons, succumbed to injuries while one critically injured person was shifted to SKIMS Soura, where his condition is reported to be stable.
On this information case FIR No. 84/2022 u/s 307 IPC, 3/4 Explosive Substances Act, 16 UAPA was registered, investigation was set into motion and searches were started to nab the terrorists involved along with SFs.
During investigation various evidences at the scene of crime were assessed and analysed and some critical leads came to the fore including the grenade lever. CCTV footage from nearby cameras was also obtained which helped to reconstruct the sequence of events pre and post the incident.
On the basis of human and technical intelligence, few suspects were picked up and interrogated. During sustained interrogation, a major breakthrough was achieved by arresting 4 terrorists and 1 terrorist associate of the Falcon Squad module of LeT (TRF)
On the basis of further investigation and disclosures made by these terrorists, various locations were raided and multiple recoveries were effected including one Bajaj Pulsar motorbike bearing regn. no. JK05F 4822, used in the commission of the terrorist act, were recovered. Pertinent to mention here is that the consignment of weapons and explosives was received by these terrorists a few days before they carried out the attack on the wine shop.
However, the same group has earlier been involved in various terrorist acts as was disclosed and brought out during the investigation which include last year’s grenade attacks in town Baramulla, various firing incidents in and around Baramulla, transportation of proscribed weapons and explosives etc.
With the arrest of these terrorists and the recoveries made from them, Baramulla Police solved a prime case of terror attack and along with Army 46RR, have succeeded in averting major attacks which these terrorists had been tasked to carry out by their handlers across the border. Further investigations are underway and more revelations are expected.
