JAMMU, FEBRUAY 1: The J&K’s State Investigation Agency have brought here on transit remand from Punjab and Haryana four alleged terror operatives including a couple for questioning into their role in sending hawala money to militants in Kashmir.
Pointing out that the couple hailed from Punjab’s Taran Taran area and another from Jalandhar, sources said that trio were apprehended by Haryana Police at a naka between Ganaur and Murthal in Sonepat district on Sunday night. The naka was laid following information from Jammu Kashmir Police about their movement through the area for catching a flight abroad from Delhi. The SIA also had provided their photographs to the Haryana Police.
The fourth terror operative was arrested from Punjab’s Amritsar.
The information about them was developed by SIA following interrogation of three alleged Jaish-e-Mohammad operatives in Kashmir who were apprehended by J&K Police along with Rs 42 lakh cash at Ban Toll Plaza in November last.
Identified as Fayaz Ahmad Dar of Kulgam, besides Umar Farooq and Mauzam Parvaiz, both Pulwama, they were arrested along with cash while travelling in an Innova car from Punjab to South Kashmir. The police had later handed over the case to SIA for investigations.
Sources said that those arrested in Sonepat and Amritsar are suspected to be in touch with Jaish-e-Mohammad leadership in Pakistan and they had been instrumental in sending hawala money received from abroad to militants including slain Riyaz Naikoo, a top Hizbul Mujahideen commander, who was killed in an encounter in Kashmir Valley in May 2020.
