Clerics in Poonch district issue fatwa against playing music in marriage functions

POONCH, JANUARY 6: Some Muslim clerics in Jammu and Kashmir’s border Poonch district have issued a fatwa against beating of drums or playing DJ by members of the community during marriages or cutting of grass.

Pointing out that nikah (marriage) shall be done in a simple manner, they said that moulana will execute the nikah ceremony only after the family member first give an undertaking that they will neither play DJ nor beat drum during the function.

The fatwa was issued by Muslim clerics in Mankote area after a meeting. They said that if one defies the fatwa, moulana will not visit one’s house in case of death for carrying out the namaz-e-janaza, or for prayrs on 11th day. The one defying the fatwa will have to publicly tender apology during Firday prayers, they added.

The clerics who participated in the meeting and endorsed the fatwa included Moulana Javed, Moulana Ameen, Moulana Sarfaraz and Moulana Khursheed among others.
