Jammu: Golden victory Fortnight Commemoration Events for 1971 operations is planned in a staggered manner throughout the country by the GRENADIERS Regiment from 01-16 Dec 2021.
The events are being coordinated centrally since the Regiment played a decisive role in the 1971 operations in the Western as well as Eastern Sector which is evident from the award of Theatre Honour of Punjab, Battle Honour Jarpal and Chakra, one PVC and numerous other Gallantry awards.
Many GRINDERS attained martyrdom and gave the supreme sacrifice to uphold the traditions of the regiment. It is imperative that the unique role played by units of the regiment is highlighted in the spirit of ‘SARVADA SHAKTISHALI’.
In view of the above, various events have been planned and would be conducted under the overall coordination of GRENADIERS Regiment under supervision of Colonel The GRENADIERS. The celebrations which are planned in Jammu will focus on J&K and Dogra belt region.
This event will focus on Veterans, Awardees and NOKs of 1971 War and disseminate gallant achievements of soldiers during the war.13 Battalions of the Regiment during 1971 War were actively involved in the operations. Out of 13 Battalions, 12 Battalions were involved in the Western Theatre while one Battalion was operating in Eastern Theatre.
Awardees and Veterans who participated in 1971 War alongwith NOKs were felicitated on 06 Dec 2021 in Jammu. The Valiant soldiers of THE GRENADIERS created history for the nation and for the Regiment in the 1971 War. A befitting commemoration of events for the awardees, NOKs and veterans who took part in the 1971 war is imperative. The Golden Victory Fortnight Commemoration by GRINDERS is an effort to recognise the sacrifices made by the valiant soldiers of the Regiment.
