Srinagar, Nov 27: Former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday asked the Union Government to complete the delimitation process before the month of March so that elections are held as soon as possible.
“During December, January, February and March elections cannot be held in Kashmir and Pirpanchal regions. At the All Party Meeting ( in Delhi) we had asked Union government to first give statehood back and later hold elections. But they did not accept it. Now we are saying that you complete the delimitation process before March and hold elections in April,” Azad told reporters in south Kashmir’s Kulgam after addressing a rally at Devsar.

Azad said that their is total consensus among all the communities in Jammu and Kashmir with regard to return of statehood.
The priority before all is that how the position that existed on August 4, 2019 is restored in J&K, he said when asked about restoration of Article 370.

“The question is how to restore that position. That can be done by giving statehood and by holding elections. Then the MLAs, who so ever is in the majority will decide about the chief ministerial candidate,” he said while suggesting political parties to create an atmosphere where people could believe that elections can take place.
“I urge all political parties to create an atmosphere which is conductive for holding election. People are in distress in Jammu and Kashmir,” Azad said.

Earlier during his speech he said that people are sad and depressed in J&K after the abrogation of the special status.

He also showed his displeasure over Jammu and Kashmir being turned into a union territory. (Agencies)
