Jammu: Congress MP and party’s former president Rahul Gandhi is  visiting Jammu next week.

Disclosing this here on Sunday, AICC incharge J&K affairs and former MP, Rajni Patil, at meeting of senior party leaders said that he will straightway proceed to the Mata Vaishnodevi shrine near Katra to pay obeisance. Later on his return from there, he will interact with important party functionaries in blocks, districts, besides party representatives in PRIs and leaders of frontal organizations during his two day stay in Jammu.

The meeting chaired by PCC president G A Mir was attended by party functionaries, former legislators, corporators and heads of frontal organizations.

He shall interact with the members of extended Working Committee including former ministers, legislators, AICC, PCC and DCC delegates, besides heads of frontal wings.

The Congress leader was scheduled to visit  Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh earlier last month, but in view of his preoccupation during the parliamentary session, he could pay only a two day visit to Srinagar last month. During his stay there, he visited Khir Bhawani and Hazaratbal shrines, besides holdings interactions with the party leaders and activists.

During the inaugural function of the new building of the party office at Srinagar he had announced that he shall visit  Jammu and Ladakh too, in near future.

JKPCC chief G A Mir said that Rahul Gandhi will take the feedback from the ground about the state of affairs and the feelings of people after disbanding and downgrading of the historical state into UT and current spell of the Central rule. Although no rally has been planned in view of Covid situation but all precautions shall be taken in this regard while facilitating the top leaders at various levels to interact with the leader, he added.

Earlier, a convention of JKPCC’s SC Department was addressed  at the party office by the Rajni Patil. The convention was organized by the newly appointed  Chairman of the SC Department Dr. Karan Bhagat.

PCC president G.A. Mir and other prominent functionaries of PCC were also present.

Patil told the gathering that Congress has always protected  and promoted the interests of the down trodden and weaker sections of the society and  is committed to their upliftment and empowerment in all spheres of life. She said that the framer of the constitution Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar belonged to Maharashtra which is her native state and she is proud of it.

Poiting out that the provision of reservation including political reservation was aimed at their political empowerment, she said that SC, ST, Women got the reservations at the grass root level democratic institutions  in the whole country including J&K by virtue of 73rd and 74th amendment of the constitution of India introduced by the congress party under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi.

G.A. Mir appreciated the efforts of newly appointed  Chairman SC Dept. of PCC  for stepping  up activities of the organization and hoped that the Dept. shall reach out to the targeted sections in all areas to educate the people of their rights.

On this occasion Satish Dogra (Rtd. Aeronautic Engineer) and Vinay Bhushan (Rtd. MD Industries & Commerce) joined Congress party. They were welcomed by the senior Congress leaders in the party. Amar Chand, Baldev Raj, Yog Raj, Ashok Kumar, Prem Lata, Sahil Sabotra, Gian Chand were the other SC leaders who attended the function.
