Leh: Knowing the importance of developing and strengthening border areas, the Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, Executive Councillor for RDD/ASH, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, and DC/CEO LAHDC Leh, Shrikant Suse, visited the villages of the Korzok constituency in the Changthang region on the 20th and 21st August 2021.
CEC, EC RDD and DC Leh evaluated all the issues with an on-ground visit to the sites. They visited Chumur, Korzok, Sumdho, Sumdho Tibetan Camp, Angkung, Nomadic Residential School Puga, Thukjay Gonpa, Samad Morchen and Kharnak Spangchen nomadic villages. The villagers of the Changthang region accorded a warm welcome to all the officials during their visit.
The major issues highlighted by the villagers included restrictions on nomadic grazing pasture lands in zero border areas, completion of road connectivity with blacktopping, telecommunication connectivity with high-speed internet, redressal of drinking water issues, land allotment issues, the up-gradation of the existing govt schools and health centres with adequate staff in nomadic areas, up-gradation of VSATs, construction/restoration of Irrigation Canals, the requirement of electricity transmission lines, renovations of community halls, the developmental renovation required at monasteries and TR Camps, and strengthening of village-level self-help and women alliance groups.
CEC Gyalson directed concerned Executive Engineers of various departments to timely execute all the planned developmental works in the entire belt of Korzok Constituency due to the short working season in the region. He also assured the villagers to complete all the developmental work affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic since last year in a phased manner. On their visit to Tsomo-Riri and Tsokar Lake, the officials also instructed the villagers to cooperate with the District Administration in maintaining the sanctity of the wetlands and preserve the natural ecology of the sites. They also ensured developing the sites to promote quality tourism in the adjacent areas of Tsomoriri and Tsokar lakes.
Interacting with the villagers, CEC Gyalson assured to upgrade the existing VSATs in all the villages to provide better internet connectivity, especially for school-going students to attend online classes. He also ensured providing reliable Tele connectivity networks in the far off regions on priority. CEC, EC and DC Leh also ensured implementing various initiatives in coordination with the Indian Army to help the students in remote areas get better educational facilities.
EC Tashi Yakzee informed the villagers of the Changthang Development Package and stated that the package will be crucial in developing the region and improvising the lifestyles of the people residing in the remote border areas of the Changthang region. Taking note of the issues of wildlife restrictions on developmental activities, EC Tashi informed the people that senior-level meetings are in progress to discuss the rationalisation and de-notification of wildlife sanctuaries in the border regions of Ladakh. Reacting to drinking water issues, CEC, EC and DC Leh informed the villagers that every household would get a water connection under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). He assured the villagers to complete the ongoing work within the specified timeline. He also took stock of the current status of works under JJM in a few villages. Since villagers raised the issues of existing non-functioning bore wells, CEC directed concerned Executive Engineers to identify sources and assess water quality and expedite the pending works under JJM accordingly.
Councillor Korzok Constituency, BDC Chairperson Rupsho, DSE PWD Circle Leh, BMO Nyoma, SHO Nyoma, Executive Engineers/Junior Engineers of PHE, PDD and R&B Nyoma, village representatives led by Sarpanches, Panches and Nambardars of the villages of Korzok Constituency accompanied CEC, EC RDD and DC Leh during their visit.
