Making an humanitarian appeal to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to come forward for the security of Sikhs residing in Afghanistan, J&K BJP Vice-President S. Varinderjeet Singh, has said that around 650 families belonging to the Sikh community are under threat of persecution after escalation of Islamic war waged by Taliban terrorists and attacks on major cities of north Afghanistan.
In a statement, S. Varinderjeet Singh said that the minorities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, have been targeted repeatedly during the past so many years and the respective governments in these three countries have never shown any concern towards taking effective steps for checking repetition of such incidents.
S. Varinderjeet Singh said that the BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought in Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the year 2019 with the sole objective of granting citizenship rights in India to the minorities of Afghanistan as well, which include Sikhs also. He said that the time has come when the Union government should be practical and make necessary arrangements for rescuing of Sikh families from Afghanistan, settle them gracefully in India and grant constitutional and legal rights as enjoyed by other citizen of this country.
Meanwhile, S. Varinderjeet Singh criticized the opposition parties for not openly supporting CAA and hesitating to stand for settlement of minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
He also demanded that the Union government should use its diplomatic channels to ensure safety of the religious places of Sikh and Hindus in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
