Thick blanket of snow disrupt normal life in various parts of J&K

Jammu, December 12: Vehicular traffic along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway remained disrupted for several hours on Saturday following snowfall and shooting stones along the road at several places.

Meanwhile a white blanket covered most parts of Jammu and Kashmir especially Valley which received moderate to heavy snowfall since Friday night. The Srinagar-Leh highway and Mughal road, connecting Shopian with Poonch district, continued to remain closed due to accumulation of snow. 

However, after remaining closed for several hours due to snowfall and shooting stones at several places, the Jammu-Srinagar highway was reopened for traffic in the afternoon, with authorities allowing one-way movement of vehicles from Srinagar to Jammu side. 

While two to three inches of snow had accumulated in Srinagar by daybreak, the hilly areas of the valley received snowfall between one foot to two feet. 

The divisional administration in Kashmir Valley pressed men and machinery into service in the early hours of the day to clear snow from the roads and restore electricity in the areas affected due to snowfall, the officials said.
