Kathua: Jammu and Kashmir Police under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua, RC Kotwal, on Friday claimed to have foiled bovine smuggling attempts and rescued 29 bovine animals in Kathua and Lakhanpur areas
Giving details, it said that during wee hours of May 6, a police team of PS Kathua while on Naka/Checking duty near NHW Sakta Chack noticed one suspicious vehicle (Mahindra Load Carrier) bearing Reg. No. Jk08B-8636 which was on way from from Kathua towards Jammu.
On being signalled to stop by the naka party, driver of the vehicle parked the vehicle far behind the naka point and fled away.
During physical checking, five bovines were found loaded in it which were rescued by the police party and vehicle was seized, accordingly.
In another instance, another suspicious vehicle (Mahindra load carrier)bearing no. JK08B-4980 was noticed by the Naka party on National Highway Sakta Chack.
In this case too, the driver on being signalled to stop for checking, parked the vehicle far behind the naka point and fled away.
On checking 05 more bovines were rescued on spot alongwith vehicle seized.
Meanwhile, a Police team of P/S Lakhanpur in its jurisdictional area noticed one suspicious truck bearing Reg.No. JK02CC_7043 which was being driven by a driver namely Guru Ram S/o Karam Chand R/O Chack Mohammad Yar in R S Pura tehsil of District Jammu.
Accompanied by his accomplice Safeer S/o Mohd. Rafiq R/o Noorkote Tehsil Haveli, District Poonch, he was signalled to stop for checking.
During checking, 19 Bovines were found loaded on it illegally.Meanwhile all bovines were rescued alongwith accused were arrested on spot.
Police have registered cases at all the places and begun investigations.
