Sharp decline in terror related incidents in J&K; says MOS Home Nityanand Rai

NEW DELHI, JULY 24: The Government of India has zero tolerance toward terrorism and it will be wiped out from Jammu and Kashmir very soon, said the Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Wednesday.

Replying to a question from Congress, MP Promod Tiwari, the minister said that there are only two places for terrorists – that is, either hell or jail and very soon, terrorism will be wiped out from J&K.

He said that after the abrogation of Article 370, a total of 900 terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir, and 28 of them have been killed in past few days.

The number of soldiers killed during this period is much less as compared to the corresponding period in the past, he added.

While there had been 7,217 terror related incidents in J&K during the period between 2004-2014, these came down to 2,259 during 2014-2024, he said. A total of 2,829 security forces personnel and civilians were killed in J&K during the ten year period between 2004-2014 and this number came down to 941 from 2014-2024, he added.

While there has been 69 per cent decline in terror related incidents since 2014, the killing of civilians and security forces too has witnessed 80 per cent reduction, he added,

The minister said that J&K has seen a new dawn of development as jobs are being created, schools are opened and all facilities are being enhanced. He said that people are now living peacefully and everyone visiting there is safe that is why crores of tourists visited J&K last year.
