NEW DELHI, JULY 10: In a first, the Central Government has allowed a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer posted in Hyderabad, M Anasuya, to change her name to Anukathir Surya and her gender from female to male.

A Finance Ministry order dated July 9 stated that “Ms M Anusuya, IRS (C&IT: 2013) [Employee Code: 4623, DOB: 20.10.1988] presently posted as Joint Commissioner in 0/o Chief Commissioner (AR), CESTAT, Hyderabad has requested for change of her name from Ms M Anusuya to Mr M Anukathir Surya and gender from female to male.” The government has approved the request of Indian Revenue Service officer, to change her name to M Anukathir Surya from M Anasuya and her gender from female to male, it said, adding that she will now be recognized as “Mr M Anukathir Surya” in all official records.
