JAMMU, JUNE 29: Economic Offences Wing of the J&K Police’s Crime Branch has filed charge-sheet against an ex-Cop for duping the wife of a reputed doctor of Rs 1.80 Cr in a property deal in Jammu.
Identified as Mohd.Afzal Beg of Gool in Ramban district, the accused is at present staying in Bahu Fort area along with his wife.
Illegally induiging in property business while in service, he had resigned as a constable from the IRP’s 19th battalion in Kathua in 2022.
The crime branch had in 2023 received a written complaint from the wife of a reputed Doctor of Jammu accusing Mohd Afzal of selling her two kanals of land at Sidhra Jammu for Rs 2.25 crore. Of this, Rs.1.80 crore was paid to him as advance, but subsequently it came to fore that the land belonged to someone else. However, Afzal didn’t return the money.
After preliminary verification into the allegations, an FIR was registered and detailed investigation was conducted by a highly professional investigating officer (I.O) and case of cheating, fraud & forgery was proved against Mohd Afzal Beg and his wife.
Whereas Afzal was arrested from Srinagar by the team of CB Jammu after hectic efforts, his wife had been bailed out.
Senior Superintendent of Police Crime Jammu, Benam Tosh said that charge-sheet of case FIR No 72 / 2023 u/s 420 ,467,468,471,120-B IPC has been filed in the court of law for judicial determination.
