DODA, JUNE 26:Three militants were killed in an encounter with a joint team of police and security forces in Gandoh in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district’s Sinoor village in Gandoh area on Wednesday.
According to police sources, the encounter began after militants opened fire at security forces combing the area, prompting the latter to retaliate.
A Special Police Officer (SPO) too was injured during the encounter. Identified as Ashiq Hussain, the injured SPO has been hospitalised.
Though the identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained, they are believed to be Pakistani nationals and formed one of tbe two groups operating in Doda district.
Pointing out that the senior police officers including the Additional Director General of Police, Jammu zone, Anand Jain, were on the spot monitoring the operation, sources said that three bodies of militants have been recovered an.d two M4 rifles and an AK 47 seized along with ammunition and explosives seized from them.
The slain militants are believed to be the same group that had attacked police and security forces at Kota Top in Gandoh on June 11, wounding an SPO.
Last Friday, police said three people had been arrested in connection with the attack. Safdar Ali, Mubashir Ali and Sajjad – all residents of Tanta, Gandoh—were arrested for allegedly providing logistical support to the militants involved in that attack.
Based on the description provided by the arrested persons, police had released the sketch of four militants and announced an award of Rs 20 lakh for `fruitful’ information about them.
